Theatre Instituut Nederland will be dismantled on 31 December and continue as Stichting TIN from 2013. The foundation will remain active in keeping Dutch theatre history alive, including the online Theaterencyclopaedia, the theatre job site and theatre education lessons for secondary schools.
TIN Foundation
The TIN Foundation will work in close cooperation with the managers of the theatre collection, Special Collections of the University of Amsterdam, to ensure that the online theatre encyclopaedia remains up-to-date and on air. The Foundation receives no subsidy and will finance its activities with the exploitation of the successful theatre vacancy site and with additional fundraising. In addition, the TIN Foundation will operate digital theatre lessons for secondary schools in 2013.
End of Theatre Institute Netherlands
Despite all the protests against the first Rutte cabinet's culture cuts, the curtain will finally fall on Theatre Institute Netherlands on 31 December 2012. For over eighty years, the Institute was dedicated to supporting the theatre sector and keeping Dutch theatre history alive. In June this year, an attempt to continue as a Theatre Museum did not receive support from the Council for Culture. All employees of the TIN will lose their jobs.
Various tasks moved elsewhere
Since it became clear that the Theatre Institute will have to close its doors, a lot of hard work has been done to accommodate as many activities as possible elsewhere. The collection and the media library will be managed on a long-term basis by the University of Amsterdam. International information and promotion of Dutch theatre and the talent development programme 'Blind Date' will be continued by Promotie Podiumkunsten for at least the next few months. The online platform theatreeducatie.nl for primary and secondary school teachers, launched this year, will be continued by Van Engelenburg Theaterproducties. The Theatre Photo Prize will again be organised by the original initiator, the VVTP.
However, the powerful pooling of knowledge on both theatre history and today's sector, which has benefited thousands of students, professionals and enthusiasts in recent years, is definitely a thing of the past with the dissolution of the Institute.
