The Piano Man, the boy who went viral this weekend for playing the piano in front of a platoon of ME in Kiev, came up with his idea in Hoog Catharijne. NRC Handelsblad reports that. Like so many, 22-year-old Markian Matsech was walking through the Utrecht shopping centre this summer, just as the art event there Call of the Mall took place. An image he saw there inspired him so much that he put his own spin on it.
The statue in question is the wax puppet of the Tank Man at Tien an Men, Tiananmen Square in Beijing. You know. That young man who managed to stop a tank column with his shopping bags.
That sculpture stood in a crowded passage at Hoog Catharijne disrupting hurried bargain hunters. And thus inspired another revolution.
What art cannot do.
