Last year If Mama Ain't Happy, Nobody's Happy by Mea de Jong at the Film Academy's graduation presentation already caught the eye. De Jong puts her father and mother in front of the camera and explores empty nest syndrome. Her inventive approach leads to a catchy portrait of four generations now on the Go Short Festival got the youth judges' prize. This is what the youth judges think:
“The winning film is very special and different from other films we have seen. The characters came across as very spontaneous and the long conversations were very interesting to watch, even with almost only talking heads. Time flew by while watching the film. This film is the best short documentary we have ever seen and we recommend everyone to go and see it!"
Young or not, watch it, here for example.
De Jong can add this youth award to the steadily growing list of awards for Mama Ain't Happy, among others, already awarded at the Netherlands Film Festival and the Keep an Eye Film Academy Festival.
