Marjolijn Vencken will become the new chair of the supervisory board of Cultuur+Ondernemen, the knowledge platform for entrepreneurship in the cultural sector, from 1 July. She succeeds Steven de Waal, who is stepping down from his chairmanship after the full eight-year term.
Marjolijn Vencken has been a member of the supervisory board since 2015. An experienced Public Affairs advisor with her own practice, she knows how to respond well to social developments as an entrepreneur. She is active in the cultural sector, including as chairman of Choir Biennale and music collective Ludwig, board member of Red Palace (multidisciplinary performing arts projects) and previously as chairman of Splendor, entrepreneurial meeting place and stage for music. Vencken is looking forward to her chairmanship: "I want to contribute to further strengthening the position of Cultuur+Ondernemen. By developing more products in co-creation with the sector, as previously with the Governance Code Culture and the recent culture loans, Cultuur+Ondernemen is working on an even stronger connection with its target groups."
Former chairman Steven de Waal looks back on the past few years with pride and confidently hands over the baton to Vencken: "The cultural sector has been hit hard by the corona crisis but has at the same time proven itself fantastically, with new (digital) initiatives that give substance to entrepreneurship in the broadest sense. I am proud of the trust Cultuur+Ondernemen has built up in recent years, from both the sector and the minister, to further encourage entrepreneurship in the cultural sector. With Marjolijn's appointment, continuity is guaranteed and I leave Cultuur+Ondernemen in good hands."
Besides Marjolijn Vencken, from 1 July 2021 the supervisory board of Cultuur+Ondernemen will consist of Joke Bakker and Arif Dursun. Members of the supervisory board and director-director Titia Haaxma thank Steven for his commitment and contribution, especially in the past turbulent coronary year. They welcome Marjolijn as chairman of the supervisory board and look forward to working together to make Cultuur+Ondernemen of even greater significance to the sector.
