's-Hertogenbosch, 3 July 2024 - MATZER is extremely happy to have been awarded the multi-year production subsidy 2025 - 2028 by the Performing Arts Fund. "We see this as a great compliment for our work and for our innovative plans for the next four years and as a great encouragement to develop MATZER into a multi-voiced maker's house," said artistic director Madeleine Matzer.
The Fund received more applications this year than four years ago. For category II, which MATZER falls into, 100 applications were processed. Per year, €38,005,000 has been applied for in category II while only €18,750,000 is available. This means that there are also colleagues who do not receive grants. We feel very sorry for those colleagues who received a negative recommendation or a positive recommendation but no grant due to an exhausted grant pot.
New direction
Since 2018, MATZER has increasingly placed theatre at the centre of society and actively seeks collaboration with theatres, organisations and governments to broaden audiences and increase the impact of its performances. In the current arts plan period 2021 - 2024, this transition has been further optimised. We are pleased that this has been seen by the Fund. Through this entrepreneurial approach, time and again, various organisations and theatres in a city or region work together. By opening the dialogue on social issues with the audience, through interactive post-conversations, among other things, MATZER creates connection. Deeply rooted in the province of North Brabant, right into all corners of the country, MATZER makes theatre that touches and connects.
Artistic director
From 1 January 2025, Martine Manten will take over from Madeleine Matzer as artistic director of MATZER Theatre Productions. While maintaining the current quality, Martine will shape a multi-voiced maker's house with core creators Lot Vekemans, Manoushka Zeegelaar Breeveld and Melissa Knollenburg. "I am very happy and proud that our company will continue to exist, and have every confidence that Martine, together with Agnes Bolwiender who will become ad interim director for at least another year, and with all colleagues and new makers, will develop MATZER even further" said Madeleine Matzer.
"I am grateful for the trust and support of the Fund and the committee. I am looking forward to implementing our plans in the new period with these creators and the MATZER team" said Martine Manten.
