Culture Council announces new work programme

The Culture Council's 2025-2026 Work Programme was published today. The Council for Culture is the statutory independent advisory body to government and parliament in the fields of culture, heritage, the creative sector and media. With its advice, the council monitors and promotes a rich cultural life and a diverse media offering. The council brings this 

This year, the council will issue opinions on supervision in the cultural sector and financing of culture. In 2026, the council's agenda includes opinions on: artistic and journalistic freedom; the impact of artificial intelligence on the cultural sector; protection of wartime monuments; and income from rights in the music sector. 

President Kristel Baele on the work programme: "As an advisory board, we have the privilege of thinking ahead, away from the delusion of the day. That gives us the opportunity to put on the agenda those topics that we think will have the most impact. We hope that our advice in that process will be helpful for sustainable policy choices that will make the cultural and creative sector and the media field even stronger."

The council's advice is produced with the involvement and expertise of people and organisations from the world of culture, heritage, the creative sector and media. The council always strives to take insights and information from practice by involving the field and juxtaposing them with insights from science.
