'Fix it yourself.' Culture minister puts fate of amateur arts in hands of municipalities and citizens

In maart van dit jaar luidde de Raad voor Cultuur de noodklok. Uniek onder de nieuwe leiding, die doorgaans uitermate volgzaam is als het over cultuurbezuinigingen gaat. Maar wat er met de muziekscholen, kindertoneelscholen, bibliotheken en amateurorkesten gebeurt, is verder geheel aan de burgers zelf, en hun gemeentebesturen. Dit antwoordt de minister aan de kamer.

New choreographer award from BNG Culture Fund

Culture Council notes total destruction of amateur art. Minister worries.

Over 60 million has disappeared from the coffers of the Netherlands' amateur artists in recent years. That money from your daughter's dance class, the brass band and your son's hip-hop class has been spent by municipalities, which had to compensate for cuts elsewhere, and provinces that suddenly saw no point in amateurs. That the national government additionally took 200 million from professional arts institutions is added to that.

We hielden een liveblog bij. Lekker ouderwets, uit de tijd dat iedere maand wel weer ergens onrust was over de manier waarop de regering met kunst omging. Nu is er rust in de tent, zoals de PVV sardonisch opmerkt, omdat 'De Linksen' nu drager zijn van het beleid dat door de PVV is bedacht. De PVV voorspelt een zwarte toekomst voor 'De Linksen' zodra de PVV aan de macht komt.

Culture Council hands out in second round
