Incandescent bulbs are also out of the question in theatres. Plays, musicals and concerts will soon all have to switch to "sustainable" lighting. And, just as this affects the atmosphere in the living room, it also affects the atmosphere on stage: sustainable light has completely different colour values than old-fashioned light. Lighting designers have been complaining about this for some time.
But what is the real situation? The Society of Stage Technology wants to find out once and for all. That is why they are going to conduct a test at the Rotterdam Schouwburg on 3 November. You, as a spectator, can be there for free.
What will they do?
Scapino Ballet Rotterdam and Dance Theatre AYA dance excerpts from ongoing performances, alternating between conventional and sustainable stage lighting. Neither the dancers nor the audience know when which lights are used. After each excerpt, the audience answers a few survey questions about their experience of the performance.
Simple as good day, that is, and it costs you nothing.
Date: Wednesday, 3 November 2010. Location: Rotterdamse Schouwburgburg, Schouwburgplein 25, Rotterdam. time: 8 pm. Reservations not required.
