'The hero': shaky book adaptation opens Dutch Film Festival #NFF2016

It was the year of book adaptations. At least, if we may judge by the nominations for the Golden Calf for best Dutch film. Beyond Sleep, De helleveeg, Knielen op een bed violen, Publieke werken, all based on solid home-grown literature. Fine films, notwithstanding, but the only nominee who chose a less beaten path is Joost van Ginkel with The Paradise Suite, so I tend to award that one the Kalf.
