Amsterdam Fund for the Arts (AFK) is seeking a member for the Supervisory Board as of 1-1-2017
The AFK invests in art that enriches life in the city. The AFK provides subsidies to artists and cultural organisations, drives innovation and stimulates the quality, dynamism and pluriformity of Amsterdam art. The AFK supports both experimentation and proven quality, professional art and amateur art - in all disciplines and from all parts of the city. As a metropolitan art fund, the AFK provides support for high-quality cultural activities and contributes to a strong and diverse art climate in the city.
For the implementation of Amsterdam's arts policy, the AFK's toolbox consists of schemes for multi-year grants as part of the Kunstenplan 2017-2020 and schemes for one-off funding. In addition, the AFK initiates special activities in the field of talent (development) and art funding, including the Amsterdam Prize for the Arts, the 3Package Deal for international top talent and the amsterdamsecultuurlening.nl
Supervisory Board
The Supervisory Board integrally supervises the management's policies and the general affairs of the AFK. Its duties include the following:
- assisting the management with targeted advice;
- representation of the fund towards various stakeholders;
- Establish the rules governing the award of grants and prizes;
- adopt the annual accounts (annual report and financial statements);
- approving the annual plan and (multi-annual) policy plan including budget
The AFK Supervisory Board meets at least four times a year. The Board subscribes to the Culture Governance Code and the Cultural Diversity Code.
Supervisory Board members:
- possess functional independence / are not direct stakeholders of the fund;
- possess demonstrable cultural baggage, as well as experience with and thorough knowledge of the arts and culture sector in Amsterdam
- have a broad social orientation and a network of interest to the fund
- know how to strike a good balance between involvement and supervisory distance
Profile of candidate
When selecting a new member, in addition to the above, the candidate's knowledge and/or experience in:
- governing, directing and/or organising a fund;
- The position and interests of art institutions and artists in Amsterdam;
- administrative and political relations in the arts sector;
- municipal politics, municipal and/or national cultural funding policies;
- organisational and human resources management; administrative organisation and internal management; marketing and communication; innovation in the cultural domain;
- entrepreneurship, being an employer and/or as a director.
Reimbursement
Council members do not receive any remuneration for their work. They are, however, entitled to reimbursement of expenses incurred by them in the performance of their duties.
