Utrecht-based theatre group Aluin is in dire straits. Like all other theatre companies, they cannot do their work, and performances have been postponed or cancelled. That it does not only apply to ongoing tours is now apparent. Performances scheduled for autumn and next spring have also been cancelled. The company reports this in a press release.
Alum was to create a show around a new exhibition on Emperor Domitian at the National Museum of Antiquities in Leiden. This exhibition as a whole will be pushed back a year. For museums with planned exhibitions featuring top international pieces, it is no longer possible to realise these exhibitions in time. In this case, reports a spokesperson for the company, it is mainly also because many of the works the museum was supposed to show have to come from hard-hit, and in complete lockdown, Italy.
Procrastination?
Whether Alum can collaborate on the postponed expo again remains to be seen, as plans would have to be adjusted again. Just how complicated that is became clear after the company sent out the press release: 'I also just happened to get a call for a performance at the theatre that was already programmed in February 2021 to cancel it, because they have to change their programme or make up performances.'
Similar sounds are also coming from the music sector, where festivals and venues with internationally touring guests in particular are reporting damage that will have an effect through to next season, or even longer.
