Filmmaker and writer Miranda July to Utrecht for ILFU

American writer, filmmaker and artist Miranda July (1974) is coming to Utrecht on Saturday 15 June 2024. For the ILFU literature festival, she will give a one-off Book Talk at TivoliVredenburg about her long-awaited new novel All Fours.

Miranda July gained worldwide fame with the feature film Me and you and everyone we know from 2005, for which she scripted, directed and starred. The film received rave reviews, won awards at several film festivals and became an unexpected audience favourite. That success was not entirely in line with expectations: the idiosyncratic July has always moved smoothly between different art forms in her work, far away from the mainstream. She made two more feature films, The Future (2011) and Kayillionaire (2020) and wrote the short story collection No one belongs here more than you (2007) and the novel The first bad man (2015). The prestigious Fondazione Prada in Milan is currently hosting the first museum retrospective of her art, including short films, performances and multimedia installations.

Her second novel will be published in June All fours (De Bezige Bij), translated into Dutch by Lydia Meeder and Gerda Baardman, about a 45-year-old semi-famous artist trying to reinvent himself. 'Profound and deeply human, a brilliant work of art by a fearless mind,' judged Emma Cline on All Fours and both Publisher's Weekly, The Guardian and Oprah Winfrey ranked the novel among the most anticipated new books.

After the Book Talk, Miranda July will be signing books. Tickets are on sale separately or including the book. Ticket sales start 11 April, for ILFU Members are from 28 March to 11 April early bird tickets on sale with extra discount.
