Maas receives positive opinions for arts plan 2025-2028.

On Wednesday 3 July, Maas theatre and dance received the redeeming word from the State: for the next four years, Maas will remain part of the Dutch Basic Infrastructure (BIS). More money was applied for and granted for this arts plan than the previous one. The week before, the positive advice came from the Municipality of Rotterdam, which called Maas "the pearl of the Rotterdam performing arts system". With much pride and gratitude, the organisation toasted on Wednesday.

SHARP CHOICES

This new arts plan makes some sharp choices: Maas wants every child in the audience to be confirmed or mirrored, which is why it takes into account the composition of the makers, the performers and the team around the project. The young audience is involved in the making process, Rotterdam is used as a source of inspiration, and making is done in co-creation with the communities around Maas. The performances let the body speak and touch your heart. The work goes beyond the ego; Maas makers play and make because they want to set something in motion.

Business director Bernadette Stokvis responds: "We are super proud and happy! Also with the fact that we as a youth theatre sector can really put down a diverse pallet. We are going to work very seriously, also with the extra money requested. We are going to do our very best to expand and live up to this chosen line, at the same time taking the time to deepen and slow down. We are very grateful!"

MESH REMAINS IN BASIC INFRASTRUCTURE

For a fourth arts plan, Maas is part of the Dutch Basic Infrastructure. The council of culture wrote in its advisory report: "The plans for the subsidy period 2025 - 2028 are idiosyncratic and polyphonic, both in terms of creators and in the choice of performances and themes. Maas is well positioned in home city Rotterdam as well as in the rest of the country to fulfil its artistic ambitions. The planned performances have a multitude of themes from various perspectives that are discussed in a very appealing way in the plans.

ADVICE MUNICIPALITY OF ROTTERDAM

The municipality of Rotterdam also gives Maas a positive recommendation for the new arts plan 2025-2028. With ratings from good to very good, there is complete agreement on Maas' new direction. From the advisory report: "Maas is the jewel in Rotterdam's performing arts system; a well-functioning artistic complex that attracts many good makers and gives them free rein. Within the organisation, making, presenting and cultural education come together in an exemplary way."
