YALFU Book Talk: Jandy Nelson
Sunday 6 April in Vogelfrei

On Sunday 6 April, American YA author Jandy Nelson is coming to Utrecht! At Vogelfrei, ILFU is organising a YALFU Book Talk with Nelson about her work and her new book Als de wereld wankelt, a rock-solid novel brimming with love, secrets and enchantment. She previously wrote the award-winning bestseller I Give You the Sun.

Jandy Nelson will be interviewed by our regular YALFU host, Samya Hafsaoui. Afterwards, the author will sign her books.

ILFU is organising this event in collaboration with Blossom Books, where When the world falters (translated by Aimée Warmerdam and Merel Leene) is published.

Jandy Nelson is the author of I give you the sun, Heaven begins at your feet and When the world falters. Before her writing career, she worked at literary agency Manus. Nelson studied creative writing and literary studies and has a master's degree in poetry from Brown University. She later obtained her second master's degree, focusing on YA literature and writing for children.

Ik geef je de zon won several awards: it was among others nominated for the Children and Youth Jury Flanders, and was voted Best Young Adult 2015 by Wed and by New York Times to Notable Book of the Year. Her latest book, When the world falters, has previously been translated into 18 languages and has been on the Top Lists of Barnes & Noble, Kirkus and Irish Times.

When the world falters tells the story of the Fall family. The family lives in the hot wine country of Northern California, in a valley where the sun falls from the sky and the devilish wind blows so hard it blows the mind right out of your head.

Years ago, the Fall children's father mysteriously disappeared, breaking the family into four pieces. With road trips, rivalries, family curses, love stories within love stories within love stories, and grief and joy passed down from generation to generation, this is the sparkling story of a family's complicated past and present. Only by telling their own stories can they hope to rewrite their future.
