Vredenburg Open Stage Concerts & Organ Wednesday - from May & June 2025
Due to the success of the free lunch concerts and the Rabo Open Stage concerts, TivoliVredenburg is coming up with two new series:
organ music on Wednesday mornings in the Great Hall and intimate concerts on Tuesday mornings at the Vredenburg Open Stage.
The free lunch concerts are a household name in Utrecht and a regular tradition for many visitors. It is also an important stage for students of Dutch conservatoires. Classical programmer Carine Hartman: "We notice an eagerness among the audience to discover new musical talent and to visit a concert at a fixed moment in the week. Now that we have opened the foyers of the Great Hall to the city during the day, we were keen to make use of that space to bring even more music into our building. It had also long been a wish of ours to have the organ in the Great Hall, built especially for us, played more."
Organ Wednesday
From 7 May, organ students from the Utrecht and Rotterdam conservatories will play five Wednesday mornings on the organ in the Great Hall, which excels in Baroque music. Baroque is therefore on the programme, never without Bach, the greatest (organ) composer, of course. But also expect more modern music, which the Rotterdam Conservatory of Music is doing a lot of. There is a special edition on Wednesday 21 May: then organ builders Elbertse & Van Vulpen will give an explanation of the organ and a demonstration. The organ was specially built for the Great Hall and has horizontal rather than upright organ pipes, thus preserving the symmetry of the hall.
Vredenburg Open Stage Concerts
The new series of Vredenburg Open Stage Concerts will take place from June on the new stage in the renovated foyer, above the entrance on Vredenburgplein. Hartman: "This spot overlooking Vredenburgplein is intimate and has a pleasant atmosphere. From June, a concert will take place here every Tuesday morning from 11:00 to 12:00 - each week with a different musical interpretation, but always acoustic and featuring local artists." On our website, as with the lunch concerts, you can see what's on the programme each week. Moreover, you can have a drink at our brand new bar Bartók after the concert.
The Free Space
Tuesday to Saturday from 10:00 to 16:00, you are welcome in the fully renovated foyers of the Great Hall. Here you can view our exhibitions, read or study in the music library or just do nothing with a cup of coffee. There are also workshops, lectures or other events.
