On Thursday 22 January, Tryater will present the results of the 2023-2025 accessibility pilot for theatre visits by blind, visually impaired, deaf and hard of hearing people, among others. Any interested party is welcome to attend this evening, at the cheerful and free gathering at Tryater's own theatre in Leeuwarden.

Merry gathering with motley company

Among those present on Thursday evening will be paralympic swimmer and Tryater fan Liesette Bruinsma, sign language interpreter Thomas Dekker, Gerrie Rozema as alderman for Diversity and Inclusion, and actress Nynke Heeg who, together with interpreters present, deployment of the special smart glasses with subtitles and gestures, and a live blind interpreter, will demonstrate how Tryater has been building an understandable theatre experience for all target groups in recent years. During the informal and multimedia event, Tryater will explain how the pilot was carried out and what the successes and stumbling blocks were. The presentation starts at 20:00. Interested parties can register via the Tryater website.

Pilot accessibility

The pilot accessibility that Frisian theatre company Tryater has been performing since 2023 ended in December with the performance Anwar and the wolf has come to an end. As of the venue performance Fanfare (spring 2023), Tryater was betting on an ever-improving theatre experience for visitors with disabilities with smart glasses, neck loops and audio description, among others. Money was made available for the pilot from Cultuurloket DigitALL. Partly from this, Tryater purchased smart glasses and other resources and attracted manpower for the technical implementation, translations and marketing towards the (new) target groups. Tryater managed to engage more and more people and pick up constructive criticism from users, for an increasingly complete offering.

Definitely accessible with Swimbad

Meanwhile, after the encouraging pilot, Tryater decided to continue investing in accessible theatre permanently as a full and natural part of working method and programming. The location performance Swimbad (May-June 2026) is the first production where audiences can once again get their fill. A special early booking discount runs until 1 February for this performance, which closes the 60-year-old Tryater's anniversary season in a special way.
