On 21 and 22 March, Tryater's theatre building in Leeuwarden will be taken over by Frisian amateur theatre. As part of its 60th anniversary, the Frisian company is organising the Ienakter Festival, where six societies and two composite groups will perform one-act plays specially written by professionals.

Gift from Tryater

Groups from Drachten, Suwâld, Dokkum, Easterlittens and Suwâld and players from all over Fryslân will perform their short plays in Tryater's halls. Audiences can choose their favourite plays via the website over two days, thus determining their own festival schedule. Tryater guides the process, delivered the text and provides technical support. The texts produced by professional writers remain available to the amateur field after the festival ends, expanding the repertoire for Frisian theatre. The participating groups may also later perform the one-act at their own play locations. With the Ienakterfestival, Tryater thus gives a gift to the Frisian amateur theatre from which it itself emerged in 1965.

One-act

The one-acts played areKerreven By Doutsen van Gosliga, An abandoned swimming pool By Sanne Schumacher, The wolf By Maaike Bergstra, Wa fan hjirút te sjen by Raymond Muller and Ballroom dancing for seniors by Wessel de Vries. A one-act is a short play or opera consisting of only one act and lasts no longer than 40 to 60 minutes. The two-day festival is arranged so that every visitor can see several one-act plays. The participating associations and groups are Theatre in the neighbourhood from Leeuwarden, Kom mar op! from Suwâld, De Pionier Theatercreaties from Dokkum, Toneelgroep Verder from Drachten, Stichting Nut en Genoegen from Easterlittens and the occasional formations Ienaksy and Botervloot.

Bequest Gryt van Duinen

Tryater found in the Ienakterfestival also an appropriate use of Gryt van Duinen's bequest. The Omrop Fryslân celebrity, once a Tryater board member, left the organisation a sum of money in 2023. Tryater and Van Duinen's family agree that this investment in the Frisian cultural field, talent development and language enrichment fits well with her memory.

Jubilee season

Tryater will celebrate its 60th anniversary in the 2025-2026 theatre season. The Ienakterfestival is one of the manifestations of this festive period, which further includes the anniversary book via publisher Afûk Tryater spilet appeared. The big location performance Swimbad concludes its anniversary season in May-June, in and around Bakkeveen's outdoor swimming pool. Just like the Ienakterfestival runs ticket sales for this via Tryater's website.
