At outdoor swimming pool Dúndelle in Bakkeveen, Tryater from Leeuwarden has started the build-up for Swimbad. The special location performance will premiere at this venue on 22 May and run until mid-June. For several days now, the technical crew has already been converting the swimming pool into an open-air theatre: the stand is now in place. Meanwhile, swimming audiences can continue to come as usual.

Generations
Swimbad is the finale of the anniversary season of the Netherlands‘ oldest theatre company, which has been celebrating its 60th year since September. In the festive year, the theme of ’generations' is a major theme. Thus, Swimbad is about an elderly woman who surveys her life in the pool from the diving board, through a variety of characters who pop up. A little girl, an adolescent, a young mother and an experienced woman, for example, but lifeguards and other characters also pop up. That it appeals to audiences is clear. Early on in the year, the show proved popular but as the performance date approaches, the Tryater box office is seeing even faster growing ticket sales.

Actresses
The lead role is played by Joke Tjalsma, who with Tryater previously starred in, among others, Oerol classic Part-time Paradise stood and is known from TV for example Gooic women, Bottom and Deer Park. In addition to Tjalsma, performers include Marjolein Ley, Anna Raadsveld and young talents Lieke Venema and Klaske Smid.

Technology for extraordinary experience
For the performance, which takes place on, next to and in swimming water, everything is pulled out technically. Tryater's Technical Department, based in Leeuwarden and recently on location, is working hard to create a special experience. Artistic director Tatiana Pratley: ‘The stand is there, and the earste technyk wurdt útrôle. Always bysûnder to see how a concept becomes workable at the very end. Us minsken betinke wer de moaiste dingen om het foar elkoar te krijgen. Alle betrouwen yn in moaie foarstelling, dêr't we ús sechtichste jier weardich mei ôfslute, sadat we nei in hearlik frisse dûk de takomst fierder y in ‘e mjitte sjogge.’
