This Wednesday, 9 March, the Amsterdam Museum, in full consultation with Hermitage Amsterdam, will open the doors of its new temporary home in the Hermitage building on the Amstel to the public. The festive opening was scheduled for last Saturday but was postponed by the museum.
''We have been renting a wing of the Hermitage Amsterdam since 2014. I look forward to working together with Museum van de Geest and Hermitage Amsterdam in the coming period to create a beautiful interpretation of the beautiful museum building,'' says Judikje Kiers, director of the Amsterdam Museum.
During the multi-year restoration and renovation of the museum location Burgerweeshuis, which is now in full preparation, the Amsterdam Museum will show an entirely new collection presentation in the Amsterdam Museum wing, which, in addition to the traditional history of Amsterdam, will also provide plenty of space for dissenting voices and lesser-known and more recent histories of the city. Alternating exhibitions will also feature residents and lovers of the city to show 'their Amsterdam'. With familiar objects from the collection and new or lesser known works and a multi-voiced narrative, the temporary location of the Amsterdam Museum will above all show visitors that there is no single history of the city.
The Amsterdam Museum will open its doors on the Amstel to visitors on Wednesday 9 March at 10am, and will be open all days from 10am to 5pm.
