We are proud to share that our founder and former artistic director Madeleine Matzer is the recipient of this year's Culture Award from the North Brabant Cultural Fund.
The jury praised her performances that touch on social issues and make audiences think. 'She gives voice to the unspeakable,' said jury chair Machteld Postma. The award will be presented by Queen's Commissioner Ina Adema. An amount of €10,000 is attached to the prize. The time of presentation will be announced later.
An impressive and multifaceted body of work
From our home base the Verkadefabriek in Den Bosch, Madeleine creates performances with MATZER Theatre Productions about big life questions and current themes, always in dialogue with the audience - both in the theatre and outside, at organisations and companies. Her versatile and impactful oeuvre includes You can feel free to tell me a secret, on the hopeful side of dementia. And The stone in my mouth, an intimate narrative about the impact of World War II, which is currently on show again at National Monument Camp Vught and other special locations.
Transfer of artistic leadership and farewell
As of 1 January 2025, Madeleine has handed over her artistic leadership to Martine Manten. At a special event, we will bid a festive farewell to Madeleine. During the weekend of 12 and 13 April, we will celebrate her impressive work with the MATZER Festival, in collaboration with the Verkadefabriek.
