The two flat-bottomed boats used for the theatre production Polder Boys had been booked, but are unable to reach the venue in Almelo Harbour in time due to the closure of the Twente Canal. The organisers are therefore urgently looking for two other authentic flat-bottomed boats. Due to the ongoing drought, the Twente Canal has been closed to shipping. As a result, transport by water is not possible. Fortunately, there is a solution: thanks to our sponsor, Bolk Transport, the ships can be transported safely by road to Almelo.
The organisers are appealing to skippers, owners of historic vessels, water sports clubs, museums and anyone with a network in the inland waterway sector. Does anyone have two suitable flat-bottomed boats, or know someone who can help? Any tips are most welcome.
Polderjongens is a large-scale theatre production about the history of Twente, its canals and the people who have shaped the region. The Port of Almelo is not only the setting, but also a key part of the story. Authentic flat-bottomed boats bring that history to life and make the production come alive.
Anyone who can help the organisation is warmly invited to contact producer Ellen Wisse at info@theaterproductiestwente.nl. Thanks to Bolk Transport, transport has been arranged; now we’re just looking for the two flat-bottomed boats.
