On 7 and 8 August 2026, Pankaj Tiwari’s *The Harvest of Broken Promises* will have its preview performance at the Boulevard Theatre Festival in ‘s-Hertogenbosch. It is the first CAMPO production by the Indian theatre maker and curator, in collaboration with his own production company, Studio Current.
At the heart of *The Harvest of Broken Promises* lies a simple yet urgent image: a piece of land that has forgotten how to sustain itself. Tiwari grew up in a farming family and draws on his memories of the traditional, sustainable farming methods of his youth. He reflects on the gradual disappearance of these practices over the past thirty years. Since moving to Europe in 2019, Tiwari has observed local farming methods at close quarters. Although he finds himself on a different continent, he sees similar struggles, which are nonetheless marked by a clear gap in time.
Tiwari weaves together video footage, interviews, visual art, music and folk tales to create a compelling, beautiful and highly topical theatre piece that makes a passionate case for seeds as the foundation of our survival.
Since graduating from DAS Theater in Amsterdam five years ago, Tiwari – who was born in Balrampur (India) – has certainly not been idle; quite the opposite. Together with Nick Verstand, he created the play *Paper Planes*, for which he folded 15,000 paper aeroplanes. Last year, together with Michiel Vandevelde and Eneas Prawdzic, he created *Violenza 2025*, a production about right-wing extremism. He has also worked in Zurich (as curator of Gessnerallee) and in Amsterdam, where he is artistic director of Studio Current. His work has previously been staged at and by, amongst others, Kaaitheater Brussels (2024), DE SINGEL Antwerp (2023, 2024), SpielArt Munich (2023), Zürcher Theaterspektakel (2020, 2023) and the Santarcangelo Festival (2020, 2021).
