In a week and a half, the Noorderplantsoen will once again become the bustling heart of Noorderzon. Noorderzon is still looking for enthusiastic volunteers and crew members from Groningen and the surrounding area to help with the festival itself and the dismantling.

From audience steward to traffic marshal, from bar staff to ticket sales assistant: there are plenty of opportunities for people who’d like to contribute to the largest arts and culture festival in the Northern Netherlands. There’s also a place for people with no festival experience.

“A festival like Noorderzon is something you create together,” says Thuja Martens, volunteer coordinator. “Every year, hundreds of volunteers dedicate their time to ensuring visitors have a special experience. At the same time, friendships are formed, you get to know people and you gain a unique glimpse behind the scenes of the festival.”

Noorderzon is looking for, amongst other things, traffic marshals, audience marshals, bar staff and runners for the catering team, as well as volunteers for the decoration team. A volunteer allowance is available for various roles.

Noorderzon believes it is important that everyone feels welcome. We take into account everyone’s talents, experience and availability. Whether you’d like to help out for a few days or are looking for a role with greater responsibility, there’s a suitable role for almost everyone.

Noorderzon takes place from 20 to 30 August! Come and help out and be part of Noorderzon! Sign up via www.noorderzon.nls!

About this author

Noorderzon Festival

Noorderzon Festival of Performing Arts & Society is a somewhat unusual combination of a huge summer festival and an international arts festival. The local programme features alongside adventurous international performing arts and social commentary. Cutting-edge theatre and music, literature, modern dance, local performances in intimate settings, post-performance discussions and lectures. The city as a stage, the freely accessible and idyllic Noorderplantsoen as a meeting place – a village and a stage rolled into one. Noorderzon has been included in the basic cultural infrastructure for the second time for the period 2025–2028.
