Nina van Tongeren (1999) graduated from the Utrecht School of the Arts in 2022 and secured a place as a dramaturge at youth theatre De Toneelmakerij. She receives the stipend for the class performance Cuckoo's nest in which two sisters explore with words how to deal with their mother's mental well-being.
The jury, consisting of Dean Bowen, Eva Gouda and Lucia van Heteren, praised the way Van Tongeren presents the subject matter to a young audience without making it unbearable. “The text excels in both meticulous craftsmanship and social urgency. The theme of mental health, often surrounded by silence and stigma, is explored with sharpness and compassion in a clear and layered narrative.”
