After two years of successful touring in Europe, Resonate Productions is making its American debut this week with five performances of FOR REAL at BAM in Brooklyn. They are part of the Next Wave Festival: BAM's annual selection of international performing arts.
FOR REAL combines original live music, stories and spontaneous conversations, amplifying the voices of women whose experiences expose society's emotional blind spots. Each performance is also recorded as a podcast, inviting the audience to share their own reflections in real time. The result is a raw, resonant act of collective listening and a space where being taken seriously becomes revolutionary.
For more than four decades, Next Wave has stood for what BAM believes in: presenting revolutionary works by pioneering artists. Next Wave offers a panoramic overview of contemporary innovation.
This year, Next Wave presents iconic artists whose work BAM has celebrated many times, alongside new talent whose work will define the coming decades.
Resonate Productions combines socially conscious journalism with many layers of original music. Andrea Voets is the artistic director and Dodó Kis is the managing director.
Journalist Shirish Kulkarni recently referred to this work as “one of the most beautiful acts of art, journalism and life that I’ve ever seen”.
