Tryater performance's first weekend of play Swimbad - the premiere is on Friday 22 May - is almost sold out. The premiere night is already fully booked; only a few tickets remain for Saturday 23 May. The location performance that closes Tryater's anniversary season (60 years) is still playing until mid-June but seats are already filling well on the other dates as well.

Swimbad is performed in and around Bakkeveen's outdoor swimming pool, with views of the pools and surrounding trees and towers from the stands. Main character Swaantsje, played by Joke Tjalsma, sees her life cycle reflected in other bathers at an advanced age. Women's lives in various stages play out in the pool, while other users - a tough mechanic, a boy in love, a concerned lifeguard, aquajoggers, children and clean swimmers, for example - pop up and float by.

To take

The cast which, besides Tjalsma and several actors from Jong Tryater, includes Karel Hermans, Gerwin de Vries, Anna Raadsveld and Marjolein Ley, has been rehearsing at the special location for several weeks while the pool is open to the public. Artistic director Tatiana Pratley directs the show together with Aukje Schaafsma. ‘It giet goed hjir. That the premjêre is now útferkerk verkocht and the other days ek hurd rinne, jout oan that we have something to catch on with this ferhaal troch skriuwer Wessel de Vries. Moai to close ús jubileumjier sa ôf.’

Fierder nei it Noarden with early booking discount

Next week Swimbad will start. Those who still buy tickets quickly via the website would also do well to strike for the title that heralds the next theatre season: Fierder nei it Noarden plays from October in car garages in Heerenveen, Drachten and Leeuwarden. An early booking discount applies for the next few months for this show directed by Loek de Bakker and starring Tamara Schoppert and Tim Helderman.

The other side at Oerol

The intermediate Tryater performance The other side, by creator Romke Gabe Draaijer and starring Nynke Heeg, will play on Terschelling during the Oerol Festival in June. Public ticket sales for this will start shortly.

Is asking questions an art form?

We can learn a great deal from the latest ‘ZomerGasten’. And from the Boulevard Theatre Festival. And about how we can listen more effectively.

The shortest ‘Zomergasten’ review ever, and why we saw the light in Groningen. And two petitions. Because they’re desperately needed. Against Hitler, in favour of dialogue.
