Appointment of the Chair of the Council for Culture

Mr J. (Jörgen) Tjon A Fong has been appointed Chair of the Council for Culture. The Council of Ministers has approved this appointment on the recommendation of Minister Letschert of Education, Culture and Science. The appointment takes effect on 1 January 2027 for a period of four years.
Mr Tjon A Fong is currently cross-media editor-in-chief at Omroep MAX and chair of the Amsterdam Arts Council. From 2021 to early 2025, he was managing director of De Kleine Komedie. Previously, his roles included artistic director and director of the theatre company Urban Myth, and he worked as a policy adviser and programmer at the Stadsschouwburg Amsterdam.
Mr Tjon A Fong succeeds Ms K. (Kristel) Baele as chair of the Council for Culture. Ms Baele had been chair of the council since November 2020 and was reappointed for a two-year term with effect from November 2024.
The Council for Culture is the independent advisory body to the government and parliament in the fields of culture, heritage, the creative sector and the media.
