Dance course explodes. Sudden vacancy management dance course Royal Conservatoire

The dance course at The Hague Conservatory has exploded. Sort of. Nancy Euverink, director of dance education is in fact stepping down from the Royal Conservatoire (KC). And not only that. Deputy director Tom Bosma is not staying on either. Who will take over after the final performances and in the new season is still unclear. An international vacancy has been posted.

Forsythe gone from Forsythe Company in September 2015

William Forsythe, dansvernieuwer, en algemeen beschouwd als een van de belangrijkste choreografen van deze tijd, stopt op per september 2015 bij het gezelschap waaraan hij zijn naam verbonden heeft. Dat meldt de New York Times. Talent development new buzzword in dance world: 3 encouraging initiatives

Dat je na je afstuderen moeilijk aan een baan komt, is ook in de danswereld bekend. Gezelschappen zetten daarom, mede  op aandringen van de overheid, in op talentontwikkeling. Ze hopen ook op een betere aansluiting met scholen. Jonge dansers staan nu eerder in de frontlinie van ballet: het theater, en dat is goed nieuws voor het publiek. Modern dance wins prizes at Dutch Dance Days

Tijdens de 16e editie van de Nederlandse Dansdagen zijn diverse dansprijzen uitgereikt: de Prijs Nederlandse Dansdagen 2013, de Zwanen en de Dioraphte Dansprijs. Respectievelijke winnaars zijn choreograaf Giulio D’Anna, danser Medhi Walerski, Club Guy & Roni voor Midnight Rising, danseres Bonnie Doets van Scapino Ballet Rotterdam en Keren Levi met The Dry Piece.

Unmercifully gracious, 'Shirokuro' builds on hammered Ustvolskaya @HollandFestival

Holland Festival

The collaboration between pianist Tomoko Mukaiyama and choreographer Nicole Beutler in the performance 'Shirokuro', seen last week at the Holland Festival, provides a beautiful perspective on two piano sonatas by Galina Ustvolskaya. 'Shirokuro' means black and white in Japanese. Despite strong visuals and impressive co-protagonists on stage, the Russian composer's absolute music is never explained and therefore retains its sheer power.

Victor, beautiful duet about contemporary male danger

Putting a man and a boy on stage together - upper body bared; in today's times, that means asking for trouble. Our gaze, saturated by paedophilia scandals, leaves little in the way of intimacy between what could also be father and son, brothers or friends. But 'Victor' by choreographer Jan Martens and director Peter Seynaeve is no good, politically correct repartee. In their search for a loving look at the relationship between husband and child, they also consistently push the boundaries of what is permissible.
