It was after the press conference where the programme of Holland Festival 2014 was presented. He was talking, as we sank deeper and deeper, about Pierre Audi, the artistic director of that Holland Festival, who this year announced his last - and most glorious - programme ever.

De onwerkelijke rustpauze van Soesterberg is bijna voorbij. Ga er nu van genieten.

Ook al breekt vandaag nog de oorlog uit, straaljagers zullen er niet meer landen. 200.000 bezoekers per jaar hebben ze nu minimaal nodig, op Soesterberg. De voormalige vliegbasis in het hart van Nederland, waar tot 2009 een squadron F15 straaljagers paraat stond om de toenmalige vijand, de communisten, een lesje te leren, komt in handen van het publiek. De projectontwikkelaar legt er de laatste hand aan het Militair Luchtvaartmuseum. Kleine delen van de vijf kilometer lange landingsbaan worden omgeploegd, en een paar hangars krijgen een bestemming als bergplaats van kunst.

The audience speaks: Pascal Schut and Davide Cocchiara best dancers of 2013

The winners of the Dans Publieksprijs 2013 have been announced. On Friday 14 February, the prizes, divided into seven categories, will be awarded at The Hague's Theater aan het Spui. Besides winners Pascal Schut (Introdans) and Davide Cocchiara (The Red Piece), they are choreographers Conny Jansen Danst for the performance 'How Long is Now' and Isabelle Beernaert for the performance 'Red, Yellow & Blue'.

World premiere in Berlin of Dutch 3D experiment Above Us All by Eugenie Jansen

Contrary to what some expected a few years ago, 3D in artistic film is still a rarity. So then, when something pops up in this corner again, it immediately makes one curious. Breaking: Rotterdam art fair changes name for fear of trousers factory

Peter Eötvös writes DoReMi for violinist Midori

For years he was a conductor who also composed, but after operas such as Le balcon and Angels in America Hungarian Peter Eötvös (1944) is now a composer who also conducts. On Friday 21 February, he leads the Radio Philharmonic Orchestra in Vredenburg Leidsche Rijn in the Dutch premiere of his Violin Concerto No 2, DoReMi, which he composed in 2012 for Japanese violinist Midori. - I spoke to him last week.

World premiere of deceased Ten Holt

Tonight, Feb 14 honours the North Netherlands Orchestra at the Oosterpoort in Groningen Simeon ten Holt, who died in 2012, with the world premiere of his orchestral work Centri-fuga, which he completed in 1979. It has never been performed to this day and will be christened tonight by conductor David Porcelijn. After the interval, Ten Holt's magnum opus will also be heard Canto ostinato for four pianos, performed by Sandra and Jeroen van Veen, Fred Oldenburg and Irene Russo. Earlier this week, other pianists also performed it at the Amsterdam Concertgebouw.

43rd Rotterdam Film Festival celebrates 25 years of Hubert Bals Fund with opening film Qissa

9,000 euros was the amount with which Indian director Anup Singh's Qissa got off the ground a decade ago. That money came from the International Film Festival Rotterdam (IFFR) affiliated Hubert Bals Fund (HBF), which has been supporting filmmakers in developing countries for 25 years now. Last night, Qissa opened the 43rd edition of the Rotterdam festival. This makes the port city world capital for independent film for ten days, as business director Janneke Starink stated at the opening in the Doelen.

In a debate at Writers Unlimited, she made a plea for the not-true story, and did so in a metaphor that rather stirred the imagination. The latenight closures of Winternachten at Writers Unlimited are always upbeat. That's because the poets have already loosened up and the audience has drunk a bit more. And this time it was also because of mega-audience favourite (on other occasions) Arie Boomsma. Out of wantonness, the cheerful ratings canon smashed poetry books of the guests of his programme section.

Dat het gesprek wat ze over dit onderwerp voerde met oud-politica Femke Halsema almaar bizarder werd, was niet zo logisch. Ronduit schokkend was de val die de schrik van alle bankiers ter wereld aan het eind maakte.

Het slagveld van de kunst: 41 instellingen weg, 132 door zonder subsidie

De eerste balans van de kille sanering door Rutte 1 is er. Bussemaker stuurde hem naar de 1e kamer. In Nederland zijn 41 kunstinstellingen opgeheven, terwijl 132 andere clubs dapper volhouden zonder subsidie (en dus ook zonder personeel). Hoe lang deze firma’s op vrijwilligers door zullen draaien, is nog onbekend. Volgend jaar zullen we er vast een paar kunnen bijvoegen in het rijtje overledenen.

Prokofjevs De speler is anderhalf uur toneel, waarna het na de pauze écht opera wordt. Dat ligt niet aan de solisten, niet aan de regie of decors en al helemaal niet aan het uitmuntend spelende Residentie Orkest onder leiding van Marc Albrecht. Misschien zijn muziek en libretto wel te vernuftig, was Prokofjev wel te trouw aan het boek van Dostojevski om er een echte opera van te maken. En misschien is Andrea Breth wel een te goede toneelregisseur voor deze opera. “Kijk vooral goed naar de boventiteling,” vertelde ze vlak voor de première, “zodat u niets mist.”

We hebben een culture index. Vandaag werd hij gepresenteerd door de Boekmanstichting, een cultureel onderzoeksbureau. De cultuurindex, eigenlijk een AEX voor cultuur, is bedoeld om inzicht te geven in de stand van de cultuur. Probleem is wel dat de cijfers een beetje oud zijn. Dankzij de index weten we nu dus dat het er in 2011 best aardig voorstond met de cultuur in Nederland. Maar ja. Dat is twee jaar geleden.
