On Friday 19 September, Museum Panorama Mesdag transferred its collection and building to the State of the Netherlands. The museum has now been given a statutory duty to manage the collection and building and keep them accessible to the public. To carry out this task, from 2026 the State will fund the museum under the Heritage Act.

In the run-up to the handover, then OCW minister Eppo Bruins asked the Culture Council for advice on the allocation of that statutory task. This advice remained confidential until the transfer. Now that minister Gouke Moes has taken the decision that collection and building will be transferred, the council is making its advice public.
