Space for Dance Art celebrates its fifth anniversary with ‘House in Motion’

ICK Dans Amsterdam’s home base is opening its doors to the public, the local community, artists and partners

Retrieved from Friday 11 September Space for Dance Art on Rijnlandlaan in Amsterdam is celebrating its fifth anniversary. Under the title House in Motion ICK Dans Amsterdam’s home venue is opening its doors for a festive gathering with the public, local residents, artists, partners and anyone curious about this special venue for contemporary dance.

Space for Dance Art is a place where dance is created, explored, shared and experienced. The striking Westbeat building in Amsterdam Nieuw-West brings together professional dancers, young creators, students, researchers, visitors and partners. It is a place where people rehearse and perform, teach and learn, watch and take part.

During House in Motion Space for Dance Art invites visitors to explore the building from the inside. A festive occasion: the doors are opening, offering the chance to view the building and the studios, and to meet one another over drinks. Visitors can also join in with WE, Together, ICK’s open rehearsals, where visitors get a behind-the-scenes look at the company.

'’Space for Dance Art is not an exclusive space for professionals, but a place where movement is shared,‘ says director and choreographer Pieter C. Scholten. ’Here, dancers and creators work every day on the future of dance, but visitors, local residents and partners can also experience that world up close during our weekly open programmes.’

Above all, this anniversary is a time to look ahead. Over the past five years, Space for Dance Art has developed into a cultural hub in Nieuw-West where creation, performance, research, education and community come together. In the coming years, this choreographic arts centre will continue to develop: open to the public, to the local community, to new collaborations and to anyone who wants to experience, create or facilitate dance.

In addition to the activities of ICK Dans Amsterdam, Space for Dance Art also provides space for external artists, organisations and partners. The professionally equipped studios and auditorium are used for rehearsals, performances, workshops, meetings, lectures and events. This makes the building not only a home for ICK, but also a place where others can bring their plans, ideas and projects to life.

Practical
