Woensdag 1 augustus 2012 maakt het Fonds Podiumkunsten de uitslag bekend van de loterij die het verlenen van subsidie aan kunst inmiddels is geworden. Er dreigen enorme kortingen: gezelschappen en makers die inmiddels vast onderdeel leken uit te maken van het Nederlandse kunstlandschap zullen verdwijnen. Hoe het er precies uit gaat zien, weten we officieel dus pas vanaf 12:00 uur woensdag 1 augustus. Om zaken vooraf te lekken heeft geen zin, daarvoor is de boel te dramatisch.

Na de presentatie van de Rotterdamse en Haagse kunstadviezen, en een paar dagen tot weken voor de harde oordelen van de Raad voor Cultuur, en een paar maanden voor de vernietigende rapporten van het Fonds Podiumkunsten, begint duidelijk te worden hoe ingrijpend de Nederlandse cultuursector geraakt wordt door de bezuinigingen van het kabinet Rutte. Halbe Zijlstra heeft ervoor gezorgd dat zijn korting van 25% op de hele sector, en tot 50% op de podiumkunsten, wet is geworden.

'Only' 800 redundancies, but five thousand jobs will disappear.

Voor de vakbonden valt het allemaal reuze mee: vanwege de megabezuiniging op de kunst moeten 800 mensen ontslagen worden. Dat is bijna niks in vergelijking met bijvoorbeeld het failliete Nedcar, waar op één locatie wellicht het dubbele of meer aan ontslagen gaat vallen. Eastern orchestras settle 40% rebate on musicians' salaries and union is sidelined
