As you know, Culture Press is an important voice in cultural news coverage. We were founded in 2009, at a time when all newspapers and broadcasters were reducing their arts editorships, and many zzp arts journalists were on the street. Publishers no longer wanted to pay for what they called 'low-hanging fruit' (reviews, interviews, announcements).

Culture Press jumped into that gap, and in the nearly 14 years since then has shown that there is a lot of fruit in the culture sector, and that there is also a lot of fruit high up in the tree: hard to reach, but journalistically very interesting.

For example, we reported on the perils surrounding the precursor to the Pokadoka and the orchestra now muddling along as Phion, we told about the inequality in the arts sector and exposed how the powers that be around big money control the musical subsidies secured for Amsterdam millionaires. We showed how politics marchander on subsidies in the Halbe Zijlstra years and noted that people in Rotterdam lost his way.

And much more.

We all make our news available for free to read and share (provided in some cases not older than three months). We do this because we have members who share the good cause of Culture Press. In addition, non-member readers can show their appreciation for the author's work with a small or large donation.
