Dominique Vleeshouwers (34) has been a percussionist ever since he put together a drum kit out of jars and bottles at primary school. After studying classical music at the Conservatoire of Amsterdam, he went on to develop into a musician who uses anything that can make a sound in his art. He travelled the world and found similarities between the percussion sounds people make and the language they use to communicate with one another.
Vleeshouwers has been experimenting with artificial intelligence for a few years now. It is a technical development that we all view with great scepticism, because the technology not only places an enormous strain on the environment and water resources, but also poses a threat to the work of creative professionals. Such as the infringement of copyright by tech companies that exploit art without paying anything for it.
Vleeshouwer takes a nuanced view of this development. He uses AI as a tool, not as an end in itself. And that opens up a whole new world of possibilities, he explains in this 34-minute podcast.
