Jonathan Franzen broke through internationally in 2001 with his masterpiece The corrections, for which he received the National Book Award, and then published Freedom (2010) and Purity (2015). Last year, Franzen already gave an (by corona restrictions) online booktalk about his new novel Crossroads on ilfu.com, this year he will be there in the flesh. The Volkskrant preferred Crossroadsto best book of 2021. Time Magazine calls him a 'Great American Novelist'. Jonathan Franzen will give a Book Talk on Friday 23 September. Ticket sales start on 1 August (and for ILFU members as early as 27 July).
Exploring Stories is an annual festival day at ILFU dedicated to the big themes of our time. Fiction writers interact with journalists, philosophers and scientists on topics such as climate, inequality, old and new colonialism, feminism and the war in Ukraine. The writers include Britain's Olivia Laing, Malaysian writer Tash Aw and European literature prize nominee Doireann Ní Ghríofa. Exploring Stories will take place on Saturday, October 1. Ticket sales have already started.
ILFU will take place from 23 September to 8 October 2022. The festival will also include the NK Poetry Slam, the Utrecht Book Market and the 39th Night of Poetry.
