Belgian actor Josse De Pauw and composer Frederik Neyrinck take inspiration from the television series Of beauty and comfort by Wim Kayzer. 'Tell me what makes this life worth living' is how Wim Kayzer opened the conversation with artists, scientists and philosophers in his legendary television series Of beauty and comfort. After re-watching the 2000 series, Josse De Pauw knew: 'I want to do something with this'.
De Pauw brings the stream of thought of Jane Goodall, George Steiner, J.M. Coetzee, Karel Appel and Edward Witten into an extraordinary concert of spoken word. Sometimes hesitant, stammering, sometimes spontaneous and determined. LOD composer Frederik Neyrinck provides these five different voices with a composition of their own. Rhapsody is a whimsical performance, an ode to thinking, doubt and not knowing, because you don't always have to understand everything to feel that something important is at stake.
After performances in Belgian theatres Rhapsody now showing in the Netherlands.
The press about Rhapsody:
In an imposing installation [...] De Pauw tells, sings and dances with the dignity and aptness of a man who knows how to pack tonnes of life wisdom into anything but heavy theatre poetry. - Knack
The various attempts to capture the intangible clash, but also resonate. That is the beauty of the rhapsody composed by De Pauw. - The Standard
