Timen Jan Veenstra co-founded Tekstsmederij with Malou de Roy van Zuydewijn and since its first activities in 2010, that organisation has worked to support and mentor emerging playwrights to give new voices a chance to make themselves heard in the theatre landscape.
Timen Jan Veenstra was also the first autonomous writer to receive the New Makers Subsidy from the Performing Arts Fund for his Chronicles of the City, thus paving the way for writers as well.
Now that he is stepping down as artistic director, the Platform Theaterauteurs thinks it is time for this token of appreciation. The Tekstsmederij is moving into a new future under the leadership of Marijke Schaap.
The awarding of the Boyer Trophy took place at Theater Bellevue in Amsterdam during A Theatre Author Thing You Must Attend, following the Boyer Lecture organised by the Authors' Union, which this year was delivered by Jetse Batelaan.
The Boyer Trophy is a prize in the form of a lamp that has had a central place in the home of founder of the Platform Theaterauteurs Marian Boyer. The prize is awarded irregularly to someone who plays a significant role for Dutch playwriting. Presenting the Boyer Trophy is made possible by Sandra Tromp Meesters, who with Suzanne van Lohuizen awarded the first lamp to Ditte Pelgrom. Rob de Graaf and Marlies Oele were also previously awarded the lamp.
