Art show in the heart of Den Bosch successfully completed and still going on tour
The tenth edition of art spectacle Bosch Parade is over. From 20 June, thousands of visitors enjoyed 16 floating artworks, with 'contemporary demons' as their theme, for four days. This summer, some of the works can also be seen in Willem Twee Kunstruimte and at Down the Rabbit Hole.
Artists, directors and choreographers from all over the world showed the most spectacular works to 44,000 spectators. As every year, the works sailing across the Dommel river were inspired by the imagination and madness of artist Hieronymus Bosch (1450-1516).
Audience favourites were the artworks 'Egotripper' by Mieke Goris, Geert Verbist and Bart Vankrunkelsven and 'Evolution of demons: characteristics in overdrive' by Boost Productions.
Theme: contemporary demons
With 16 floating, bobbing and wading creations, renowned and budding artists depicted their modern-day demons. Algorithms, data, news reports and social media, hackers and trackers and influencers rattle like menacing pests at the gates of our existence. What do we have to fear from these tormentors? Do we turn them away, or do we surrender?
"All our artists and volunteers braved the Dommel with resilience and positivity. Resulting in a fantastic tribute to Bosch." Miesjel van Gerwen, artistic director.
"Like the current in the water, the Bosch Parade has a rebellious and strong will. The will of liberating our contemporary demons and creating new entrances to art and new bonds with human beings." Tirzo Martha, participating artist
Garden of Delights
Part of Bosch Parade was the Garden of Delights: a summer open-air studio on the waterfront near the Citadel, the medieval fortress in downtown Bossche. In this busy breeding ground, the public could see and meet the artists at work. People could also enjoy snacks and drinks on the terrace of pop-up restaurant La Cucina del Diavolo.
Summer programme
Bosch Parade gets another tail this summer. The diptych exhibition 'Introspectives' by Willem Twee Kunstruimte and Het Curaçaosch Museum is part of the international collaborative project 'Your Contemporary Demons' developed by six organisations from the Netherlands and Curaçao. Central to the project is the exploration of connection, collaboration and personal demons. What happens when you let several artists and art students develop new artworks together? How do you think, create, negotiate or compromise with each other? What demons torment or help us? The curators and the artists invite the audience to help explore, reflect and add their own introspections. The exhibition 'Introspectives' will be on show at Willem Twee Kunstruimte from 8 June to 21 July.
During festival Down the Rabbit Hole (5 to 7 July, Beuningen), artist Zoro Feigl's work 'Vortices' can be seen on the festival site's shimmering lake: a series of propeller-driven whirlpools that depict the patterns of planets and the sun during a dazzling choreography.
