In the normally quiet museum hall, she uttered a cry of excitement. Amidst all the artworks stood a work of art made especially for her. Next to it, her partner was on her knees. Anjulie was proposed to by her friend Geraldine at the Amsterdam Museum.

On a sunny Saturday afternoon, Anjulie unsuspectingly visited one of her favourite museums on the Amstel River with her partner Geraldine, living in Amsterdam and together for five years. In the middle of the permanent collection presentation Panorama Amsterdam - a living history of the city, stood on an easel a work of art that is not normally there.

Saša Ostoja's artwork 'the proposal' depicts Geraldine emerging from the water as a diver and getting down on one knee with a ring in her hand to propose marriage. Archie, Anjulie and Geraldine's dog is depicted as well as a number of other symbolic elements recognisable only to the couple.

As the couple walked past work, Anjulie was surprised. Is she seeing this right? A work by one of her favourite artists depicting their little dog? Geraldine pointed Anjulie to the text sign next to the work. As Anjulie started reading, Geraldine got down on her knee and asked Anjulie: ''Will you marry me?'' Anjulie let out a cry and answered the question with a clear ''yes!''

Geraldine and Anjulie

Geraldine has been living and working in Amsterdam for 15 years and Anjulie moved to Amsterdam for work from Paris five years ago. The couple have known each other since 2017 but their love only began to blossom in Amsterdam. They both love art and culture very much and visit many museums at home and abroad together. Hence, Geraldine found the Amsterdam Museum the ideal place to propose to her lover. The last time they visited the Amsterdam Museum was still at its old location in the city centre, on Kalverstraat. Now that it is temporarily located in the H'ART Museum, it was a perfect opportunity for Geraldine to make this visit something very special and unforgettable.

Geraldine: "I am immensely pleased that the Amsterdam Museum cooperated in my secret mission. I couldn't imagine a better place to ask Anjulie to marry me. Now the museum means even more to us and we will always remember this special day!"
