Female Gaze Tour: A tour from a woman's perspective

On Sunday 11 December 2022 from 2pm to 3pm, there will be a Female Gaze Tour will take place in the historic canal house House Willet-Holthuysen. Rachel Esner and Mayken Jonkman of the platform The Other Half give a guided tour of Maaike Schoorel's solo exhibition at Huis Willet-Holthuysen.
Rachel Esner is associate professor of Art History at the University of Amsterdam. She has published on exhibition history, the image of the artist in the media, and Vincent van Gogh, as well as on reception history and art criticism. Esner is a founding member of the research platform The Other Half: Women in the Dutch Art World, 1780-1980, within which she is currently researching the contribution of female curators to the Rijksmuseum.
Mayken Jonkman is senior curator of nineteenth-century art at the RKD - Netherlands Institute for Art History and a lecturer at the Free University of Amsterdam. She has published and produced exhibitions on the nineteenth-century art market, the image of the artist and on Dutch Impressionism. Currently, Jonkman is finalising her PhD thesis on how Dutch nineteenth-century artists became successful in Paris. She is also one of the initiators of the platform The Other Half.

Free children's tour of House Willet-Holthuysen
Ongoing, including in the Christmas holidays
At Huis Willet-Holthuysen, children and their parents/carers can pick up a free booklet 'Sammie tells' at the box office. Sammie, a happy and sweet little dog, guides young visitors and their parents/carers through the canal house of Louisa and Abraham, the last residents of Huis Willet-Holthuysen. Sammie tells about the history of the house and its colourful residents. Young visitors meet cook Heinrich, the Deutz family and of course they learn more about Louisa and Abraham.
Furthermore, turtle soup is on the menu, there is a walk through the large garden behind the house, Sammie dwells on the history of the golden banister and visitors learn much more about paintings, silver and porcelain and Louisa's green dress. Visitors walk with Sammie past all the rooms and discover the special stories of this centuries-old building. Sammie tells' is also fun for adults!
