Amsterdam, 6 September 2024 - ZID Theater Amsterdam and Antwerp-based Madam Fortuna join forces again for the screening of the multidisciplinary collage performance Roots & Wings on 27 September at 20.00 at ZID Theater Amsterdam! Roots & Wings combines short performances by six different dance and theatre makers who each unleash their personal interpretation on the theme Roots & Wings. 'Where are my roots, and where do I want to go? As a maker, as a human being, as an individual'. In a mix of dance, storytelling and theatre, each maker will take the audience on a ten-minute intimate solo performance inspired by personal experiences and memories.

Roots & Wings grew out of a collaboration between ZID Theater Amsterdam and Antwerp-based Madam Fortuna with the aim of exploring new forms of collaboration and co-creation. Earlier this year, the performance could already be seen during the Nationaal Theaterweekend. Now the performance is back at ZID Theatre. Dance, storytelling and physical theatre all come together!

About the makers

Roots & Wings' performers are a mix of makers from Belgium and the Netherlands.

From ZID Theatre (NL), Issam Zemmouri, choreographer and dancer, presents his powerful style full of physical and poetic elements. He took dance training in Morocco and France and has been a regular performer at ZID Theatre for four years. Zaher Hamzat, a Palestinian-Syrian choreographer and dancer, combines classical ballet with modern dance, folk dance and Sufi dance and has an international career. Nivin Baranbo, theatre maker and actress from Syria, previously worked as a journalist and presenter and has been performing at ZID Theatre since she came to the Netherlands.

From Madam Fortuna (BE), theatre maker and actor Gilles Van Hecke brings forward stories that often remain untold; he has appeared with companies such as Theater Antigone, Ontroerend Goed and NTGent, and starred in the series Dertigers. Saloua Hassani, actress from shows such as Jihad of Love and Venus in Libra, sees this project as an opportunity for further growth. Romeo Lothy, actor and freestyle dancer, combines hip-hop with theatre, among other things, and performed in productions such as ImpulZ and No Man's Land.
