Netflix and the Netherlands Film Fund today announced the establishment of a new support fund. This is to provide help to collaborators on film and TV productions that have come to a standstill due to corona. Netflix is making €1 million available for this purpose. An amount comparable to the budget of a small Dutch feature film.
This is part of a wider package of measures offered by Netflix internationally. As such, it is part of a $100 million fund Netflix has released to support employees in the creative sector worldwide.
Film Fund
Both Netflix and the Film Fund hope that other parties will also contribute. The aim is to preserve the infrastructure of Dutch filmmakers and related professionals.
Bero Beyer, director of the Film Fund, speaks of "fantastic news" in a press release. "As a Fund, we aim to keep the productivity of the Dutch film industry going. We want to ensure that the whole chain is maintained in such a way that beautiful Dutch productions can be seen next autumn and beyond. We are excited about Netflix's support for film and TV professionals, alongside the recently announced support from the Ministry of Education, Culture and Science for the wider cultural sector."
