Marieke Hopman will be appointed November Music's new artistic director from 1 August 2024. She succeeds Bert Palinckx, who has been associated with the festival since 1999. Together with business director Theo van Dooremalen, Hopman will form the board of November Music.
''We are very happy with Marieke's arrival,' said board chair Karen Neervoort. 'She has a lot of experience as artistic director at various festivals and also as a musician. For a maker-oriented festival for new music, that background is very valuable. She has an eye for the opportunities that exist to place new music in a social context with attention for different audience groups. With Marieke, we can continue to build on the future from the solid November Music foundation that is already there.'
'I have always been concerned with new music and in particular with the task of touching audiences,' says Marieke Hopman (1981). 'Education and participation, together with artistic autonomy and innovation, are my great motives. It is my mission to firmly anchor art and culture in society. I look forward to continuing to build this wonderful festival!'
