Theatre festival Boulevard in 's Hertogenbosch receives the Prize of Criticism 2020. The assembled Dutch theatre critics award the festival this honour for its consistently high quality and its inspiring alternative corona edition.
Theatre Festival Boulevard, under the leadership of Viktorien van Hulst, has grown into a regionally rooted festival of national importance. Every year, Boulevard manages to strike a smart balance between entertainment with substance and cheerful innovation, with a keen eye on inclusivity. Even in these corona times, the organisation still put up an inspiring alternative programme. Van Hulst also deserves great appreciation for her efforts to strengthen the position of festivals within the Dutch performing arts field.
Every year, the members of the Kring van Nederlandse Theatercritici (KNT) choose a winner of the Prize of Criticism. This may be a person, institution or initiative that has made a positive contribution to theatre, music theatre, dance, mime and/or cabaret in the past year. The award has existed since 1967; the trophy is a bronze statuette by theatre designer and visual artist Michiel Johannes Jansen. Previous award winners were De Warme Winkel, De Nieuwe Toneelbibliotheek and Orkater.
The award will be presented at a later date this season.
