The Dutch film Sky was voted best film in the Forum section for young cinema by the jury of international critics at the Berlin festival. This is a fine success for director Sacha Polak, who delivers her first feature-length film with this drama about a young woman who has lost her way in search of love.
Sky, to a screenplay by Helena van der Meulen, joins a trend of films - think, for example, of Shame, Lena and the Rotterdam award-winning Clip - in which sex turns out to be a poor substitute for more substantial human contact. The young woman in Sky (brave debut by Hannah Hoekstra) searches for herself between her non-committal sex adventures and obsessive emotional attachment to her father.
US trade magazine Variety was also Sky noticed and published a laudatory review.
